Driven by OCD
October 26, 2024: This next painting is taking a long time, but I’m not too concerned because I’m very confident in how it is turning out. Mean Kitty (Cat #4 on Cat Tree) got some much needed definition. Look at the painting very closely — all dots and a million different colors used instead of shadow.
One of the biggest reasons I am also enjoying working on this painting is because it satisfies my cold, dead, OCD-ridden heart. LOL But in all seriousness, because I’ve been OCD all my life, I find pointilism to be oddly comforting, and I say “oddly” because pointilism requires abundant patience, and patience is normally a word not associated with me.
This is the full painting (so far) — I’m still deciding on the background. As my teacher at Hudgens stated, the background and cats are fighting for attention because I used two different techniques for each (sponging was used for the background). That’s where the “tree” portion is going to enter the picture (pun intended) to provide a catalyst.
